First Year MBBS student tries to end life
Hyderabad:An MBBS student in Siddipet attempted suicide by jumping from the first-floor window of her hostel room. However, she survived the fall.
The victim is a first year student at Surabhi Institute of Medical Sciences. She has been struggling with Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) for the past seven years and was undergoing treatment for the condition. However, the pressures of her alleged depression led her to write a suicide note and attempt suicide.
While the victim survived the fall, she sustained a broken right leg. College management immediately informed her parents, who rushed her to Hyderabad for advanced care. Her condition is reported to be stable.
In her note, she wrote, ‘Sorry dad, mom, sis. I’m unable to bear obsessions during studies in a hotel. I want to study but I can’t study. Believed medicines could cure me but they didn’t. It’s been 7 years stressing over due to OCD. Thanking you’ll for supporting and encouraging me at hardest times. (Sic)”
Siddipet police, led by ACP Madhu, have launched an investigation into the incident. The college management and the victims parents were questioned about the circumstances surrounding the suicide attempt. It was revealed that the family had requested that the matter remain confidential and the college did not reveal any details to the public.
