Joint Operation Busts Gang Smuggling 1.44 Tonnes of Banned Cotton Seeds

Hyderabad: The Medchal special operations team and Rajendranagar zone police along with the officials of the agricultural department and local police in a joint operation arrested four persons who were illegally transporting and selling 1.44 tonnes of banned cotton seeds, worth Rs 36 lakh, after intercepting their vehicle at Shankarpally.
The accused were driver Pulikonda Yashwanth Kumar of Mancherial district, farmers Borra Shiva Shankar Rao of Velmula, Ramachandrapuram and Madamanchi
Uday Kiran of Shankarpally and Ashireddygari Srinivas Reddy, also of Shankarpally. Police said other accused including Suresh Yadav and Hari Babu were absconding.
Driver Yashwanth Kumar said he had been sent by Suresh Yadav to Sindhanur town of Raichur district in Karnataka to bring seeds to Mandamarri of Mancherial district. The gang had been smuggling the banned seeds for a few years, Cyberabad police commissioner A.K. Mohanty said in a statement.
