Hyderabad:A 55-year-old man undergoing treatment at the Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences died by suicide at the hospital on Friday. The deceased, Narayana Posham, was reportedly addicted to toddy and had been struggling with withdrawal.

According to Panjagutta police, Narayana attempted to procure toddy from a shop near the hospital. When his family members prevented him, he died by suicide.

Narayana had been admitted to Nims on March 1 for treatment related to his alcohol addiction. His 80-year-old father, Hanumandla Posham, who is suffering from cholangitis and other liver-related complications, is also undergoing treatment at the same hospital.

Narayana suffered a severe head injury and was shifted to the emergency ward, where he was placed on a ventilator. He later died due to his injuries, police confirmed. Police have registered a case and shifted Narayana’s body to Gandhi Hospital for postmortem.

3 women held for thefts on RTC buses

Hyderabad:Madannapet police arrested three women from Tamil Nadu for theft and recovered gold ornaments and cash worth `9 lakh from their possession. Madannapet SHO B. Srinivas said the gang targeted senior citizens, especially women travelling on RTC buses, diverted their attention and stole their ornaments.

The arrested were identified as Munniyandi Ramya, Bhuneshwar, and Muthi Mari, all from Chennai. Two accomplices, Anjali and Parvathi, are absconding.

The gang’s arrest followed a detailed investigation involving CCTV footage analysis, call data records and a review of past offences. Police confirmed that the women had earlier been arrested in similar cases and followed a consistent modus operandi.

During interrogation, the accused confessed to committing thefts within the areas of Saroornagar, Madannapet, Begumpet and Kanchanbagh police stations.

Appealing to the public, the SHO urged residents to install CCTV cameras on streets, avoid carrying gold or large amounts of cash while using public transport and maintain distance from unknown individuals.

18 accused of Chilkur priest attack get bail

Hyderabad:The Rajendranagar court on Saturday granted bail to all 18 accused in the Chilkur temple priest attack case, including prime accused Veera Raghava Reddy. The accused were directed to furnish two sureties of `15,000 each.

According to Moinabad inspector G. Pavan Kumar Reddy, the accused had completed 58 days in judicial custody. The court granted relief after the accused approached the magistrate with a formal petition.

The case pertains to the attack on Chilkur Balaji temple priest C.S. Rangarajan, carried out by Veera Raghava Reddy and his associates. On February 7, Raghava Reddy entered Rangarajan’s house and asked him to join and donate for the Ram Rajya Society. When Rangarajan refused, Veera Raghava Reddy and 17 of his associates attacked the priest.

Investigations revealed that the prime accused had recruited others into the group by offering food and money. All 18 accused were arrested by Moinabad police following the attack and have been in custody since.
