New Delhi: Election campaigns in Maharashtra and Jharkhand are set to intensify with Prime Minister Narendra Modi launching an NDA blitz after Diwali. With the painstaking seat-sharing exercises finally over, the Prime Minister will lead the BJP-led NDA charge in at least eight public rallies in Jharkhand beginning November 4 and is expected to address about a dozen rallies in Maharashtra.
Besides the Prime Minister, top BJP leaders are being mobilised to launch a blitzkrieg in poll-bound Maharashtra and Jharkhand. The BJP heavyweights set to campaign in the two states include Union ministers Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh and Nitin Gadkari, among others.
The chief ministers of the BJP-ruled states will also be deployed. Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath, whose "batenge to katenge " remark has become a warcry for the Safron party in Maharashtra, is the most sought after among the CMs by the BJP strategists. The BJP Maharashtra allies are also making a beeline for Mr Adityanath's stage presence in their constituencies, where the party is part of the ruling Mahayuti alliance led by CM Eknath Shinde's Shiv Sena. Ajit Pawar's NCP is the third alliance partner.
In Jharkhand, the BJP is banking on its campaign theme — " Maati, Beti, Roti". Under the Maati, Beti plank, the BJP is trying to raise the issue of demographic changes occurring in the state due to "infiltration from Bangladesh" in the tribal land. The party has been raising the spectre of "infiltrators occupying tribal lands by marrying tribal women" and has been accusing the Hemant Soren government of "allowing illegal infotration for vote bank politics.
Under the "Roti" theme, the BJP is focusing mainly on unemployment in the state. The saffron brigade has also made corruption a major poll issue in Jharkhand.
The Prime Minister will visit poll-bound Jharkhand on November 4 and address two rallies, Union minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, who is the BJP's election in-charge for Jharkhand, said on Wednesday. He said Modi will address rallies at Chaibasa and Garhwa.
Speaking with the media, Chouhan said that Shah will also address three public meetings on November 3. He said Shah will arrive in Ranchi on November 2 and address three rallies in Dhalbhumgarh, Barkatha and Simaria the next day.
Chouhan said the Prime Minister and the Union home minister will kick off the election campaign in the eastern state.
As the BJP juggernaut is set to roll into the poll-bound states, the party's OBC, ST and Dalit morchas have also been aggressively working at the grassroots. Besides, the RSS and the VHP cadre have also spread across Maharashtra and Jharkhand to consolidate the votebanks.
In Jharkhand, out of the 81 Assembly seats, 28 are reserved for Scheduled Tribes. Sources revealed that in these 28 seats, the VHP has been organising conferences and also launched a door-to-door campaign.
Polling for the 288 Assembly seats in Maharashtra will take place on November 20, while voting for 81 seats in the Jharkhand Assembly will be held on November 13 and November 20. Results of both states will be declared on November 23.
