Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh government is going to bring a stringent anti-paper leak law providing a ten-year- jail term and a fine of ₹ one crore to the person held guilty by the court in such cases.

The proposed legislation will cover tests held for admission to various professional courses and board examinations conducted by various government agencies in Madhya Pradesh, a senior officer of the state government told this newspaper on Friday, unwilling to be quoted.

The move comes in the wake of the leak of the NEET-UG papers, triggering a nationwide outrage.

“The draft bill of the anti-paper leak law is ready. The law would be enforced either through ordinance or after its passage in the ensuing budget session of Madhya Pradesh Assembly, scheduled to commence on July one”, the officer revealed.

The draft bill proposes imprisonment up to ten years and a fine of ₹ one crore to a person found guilty in a paper leak case by a court.

If the paper leak case would be proved to be an organised crime, then the accused in the case would be given the maximum punishment provided in the proposed law.

It also proposes to attach or confiscate properties of the accused in such cases.

The service providers would be held accountable if they fail to inform the police after learning about a paper leak incident.

A paper leak case will be treated as a non-bailable offence.

An officer, not below the rank of deputy superintendent of police (DSP) or assistant commissioner of police, will be given the task of probing such cases, as per the draft bill, sources said.
