Hyderabad: Schools have undergone significant changes what with new paint coats, upgraded furniture and decorations with flowers. The admission process has been particularly busy with both private and government schools preparing to welcome students back after the summer holidays.

Sunitha H, principal of a private school in the city, said, "With some children being excited and a few others feeling not so great with another academic year to begin, a happy welcome can be good mood booster and they will begin their day and the academic year on a positive note."

The Prof. Jayashankar Badi Bata programme, which aims to boost government school enrolment, will continue until June 19 across the state.

The programme involves activities designed to ensure all school-age children are enrolled in schools. These include door-to-door campaigns, awareness rallies, and community mobilisations to reach out to parents and encourage them to enrol their children in government schools, especially in the districts.

Special attention is being given to children from Anganwadi centres and those who have never attended schools or have dropped out.

From June 12, the Badi Bata programme will incorporate activities such as parent-teacher meetings, distribution of textbooks and uniforms, and recognition of students' achievements from the previous academic year.

Schools will also focus on foundation literacy, digitalisation awareness, tree planting, and sports to create a lively and engaging atmosphere for students. This year, school timings will be from 9 am to 4 pm.

Meanwhile, uniform stores across Abids and Secunderabad areas were found crowded with parents and students making their last minute purchases.
