Bhubaneswar: Tigress Yamuna, recently relocated from Maharashtra, successfully made her first kill on Thursday after being released into an enclosure in the core area of Odisha’s Similipal Tiger Reserve (STR) in Mayurbhanj district.

According to reports, Yamuna hunted a wild boar to satisfy her hunger. Prakash Chand Gogineni, field director of STR, shared that both a deer and a wild boar had been released into the tigress’s enclosure, and she chose to prey on the boar.

After the hunt, Yamuna drank water, indicating she is adapting well to her new environment. State forest department sources report that the tigress is healthy and calm.

“Tigress Yamuna is active, calm, and in good health,” Gogineni said, noting her successful kill of the wild boar.

CCTV cameras have been installed in the enclosure to monitor the tigress’s movements closely.

The two-and-a-half-year-old tigress was brought from Maharashtra's Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve (TATR) on October 28 and released into a two-hectare soft enclosure in Similipal the following day. The translocation received approval from the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA).
