Former Sarpanch killed, couple from Jaipure injured in separate terror attacks in J&K

Srinagar: A Muslim couple from Jaipur was fired upon by suspected militants at Yannar, a village in Jammu and Kashmir 's southern Anantnag district late Saturday night.
In a similar incident reported from neighbouring Shopian district, a former village head was injured and later succumbed at a local hospital.
The slain former Sarpanch has been identified as Aejaz Ahmed Sheikh. The police said that he was shot by militants from close range in Shopian's Hurpur area at around 10 pm on Saturday.
However, the condition of the injured couple is stated to stable.
Kashmir zone police wrote on micro-blogging site 'X', "Terrorist fired upon and injured a lady Farha R/O Jaipur and spouse Tabrez at Yannar, Anantnag. Injured evacuated to hospital for treatment. Area cordoned off. Further details shall follow, reads the post."
Local news agencies reported that the couple from Rajasthan was on a visit to Pahalgam when targetted at Yannar near Kashmir's premier resort.
Anantnag and Shopian are part of the Anantnag -Rajouri Lok Sabha constituency which is scheduled to go to polls on May 25. The police said former Sarpanch Aejaz Ahmed Sheikh killed in Shopian was associated with the BJP. The BJP confirmed it and called him 'a brave soldier of the party'.
