Karanataka CM Commissions Yettinahole Water Project

Bengaluru: The State Government’s ambitious Yettinahole Integrated Drinking Water Project (Stage-1) was commissioned on Friday by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah in Sakleshpur taluk of Hassan district after a decade the works on the project started.

The Yettinahole project aims to divert water from west flowing streams of Yettinahole, Kadumane Hole, Keri Hole and Hongada Halla in Sakleshpur taluk and divert water to water parched areas of Hassan, Chikkamagaluru, Tumakuru, Ramanagar, Bengaluru Rural and Kolar which are in East part of Karnataka.

The Yettinahole project envisages to divert 24.01 tmc feet of water during monsoon season. From the project envisaged, it is planned to utilize 14,056 tmc feet of water to mitigate water needs of the residents and another 9.953 tmc feet of water from the project will be used to fill-up as many as 527 tanks to their 50 percent capacity to help recharge ground water. From the project, an estimated 75.59 lakh residents will benefit from the Yettinahole project in 6657 villages and 38 towns in 29 taluks spanning across 7 districts.

Officials stated the total length of the Gravity Canal is 252.61 km out of which 42 km of work has been completed. Since, forest clearance and land acquisition issues have come in the way of project completion and it is estimated the project will complete in March, 2027. The project cumulative financial progress of Rs 16, 152.05 crore has been achieved out of the estimated Rs 23, 251.66 crore.
