Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala police have penalized 23 police personnel for participating in a photo shoot at the Pathinettam Padi (sacred holy steps) near Sannidhanam in the Sabarimala temple.

The police officers have been ordered to undergo intensive good conduct training in Kannur. They have been recalled from Sabarimala duty.

The disciplinary action will be reported to the High Court on Thursday.

The photoshoot by policemen sparked a major controversy, the other day.

ADGP S. Sreejith had sought a detailed report from the Sannidhanam special officer about the photoshoot. The Kerala High Court had also criticized the officers involved in the photoshoot at the sacred site.

The court while, acknowledging the commendable service of cops at Sabarimala, stated that such actions were unacceptable.

The Devaswom Bench had also instructed the executive officer to submit a report on the recording of videos using mobile phones in Sabarimala's Thirumuttam and Sopanam areas.

The photograph, taken by the first batch of police officers after their duty, sparked controversy once it was shared on social media.
