Madan Mitra Warns Paramilitary, Clashes in Bhangar Injure Five Ahead of Polls
Kolkata: A day before the last phase of the Lok Sabha Election covering nine key seats in West Bengal, Kamarhati Trinamul Congress MLA and former state minister Madan Mitra warned the central paramilitary forces against resorting to excess.
He asserted on Friday that the state's ruling party has the power to snatch the sticks from the central troopers if they dare to touch the common people during the polling on Saturday. The TMC leader also threatened of giving “Dum Dum Dawai.”
Mr Mitra sarcastically said, “If anyone needs ORS, I am in favour of providing it because humanity is above everything. But will it be possible to give if the central forces think of beating with their long sticks under the threat of guns and later ask us for ORS?”
He added, “Let them behave well. If they try to use sticks and unnecessarily touch anyone, TMC also have the power to snatch their sticks.” The TMC leader then claimed, “Dum Dum means Dawai. This is not my word. If I say Dum Dum means Dhulai, it is unparliamentary.
He quipped, “But I am talking of Dawai. Be sure that TMC workers know very well of giving Dawai in what mixture and where.” Meanwhile, five persons were injured in a clash between TMC and Indian Secular Front (ISF) at Bhangar in South 24 Parganas on Thursday night.
Trouble broke out at Baniyara village in Bhogali where ISF workers allegedly attacked TMC men. The clash intensified when bombs were hurled. Two among the five injured, who are TMC workers, were admitted to SSKM Hospital.
Their condition is serious. Police arrested two ISF workers later. While local TMC MLA Showkat Mollah blamed ISF MLA Noushad Siddiqui for the clash, Mr Siddiqui however held Mr Mollah responsible for the attack.
