Hyderabad: A Food Task Force team on Thursday conducted raids on three popular establishments in Charminar area such as Hotel Shadab, Nimrah Cafe and Bakery, and Arabiana Restaurant where it found several food safety violations.

During the inspection at Shadab, the team discovered multiple violations. Improperly labeled food items, including Eagle brand cutting coconuts (packed) and dried rose petal (packed) as well as cardamom and cumin were seized as they lacked packaging dates and batch number. Additionally, some semi-prepared and raw food articles stored in the refrigerator were found without proper labeling and covering.

A true copy of the FSSAI license was not prominently displayed on the premises. The kitchen area on the ground floor was exposed to external environment without proper insect-proof screening and the doors were not tightly fitted, allowing potential entry of pests or flies. Open dustbins without lids were also observed. The inspection revealed flaking plaster from ceiling with dust and cobwebs over the gas pipeline in the ground floor kitchen area, the team said.

Moreover, medical fitness certificates for food handlers were not available, although the Food Business Operator (FBO) had records of pest control measures being conducted every fortnight.

Nimrah Cafe and Bakery exhibited several food safety violations. The FSSAI license was not prominently displayed, and some food handlers were seen without hair caps, gloves, and aprons. The areas where baking and aeration of baked products were conducted were open to external environment, lacking proper insect-proof screening, and the doors were not tightly fitted to prevent the entry of pests or flies.

Food articles such as fresh cream and pastries stored inside the refrigerator were found without proper labeling. The FBO did not have medical fitness certificates for food handlers or pest control records. However, the baking equipment and surrounding areas, including the floor, were found to be tidy and hygienic.

Arabiana Restaurant in Charminar was found to have multiple violations as well. The FSSAI license was not prominently displayed, and food handlers were found without hair caps, gloves, and aprons. The kitchen premises were open to external environment without proper insect-proof screening, and the doors were not tightly fitted, allowing the entry of pests or flies. Some dustbins were found open without lids.

The inspection also revealed stagnant water, untidy and greasy exhaust fans, and flaking plaster near the cooking area. The refrigerator was in a very unhygienic condition, with food articles not properly covered and labeled. The FBO did not have medical fitness certificates for food handlers or pest control records.
