Mumbai: In a major twist in the 12 year old Sheena Bora murder case, the prosecution on Thursday informed the trial court that the bones and remains of the victim, which were recovered by police in Raigad, are not traceable. The missing evidence consists of skeletal remains recovered by Pen police in 2012, the year Sheena Bora was allegedly murdered. Public Prosecutor C.J. Nandode informed the special CBI court in Mumbai that the bones, crucial for forensic analysis, could not be located despite a thorough search.

The admission of missing evidence came during the deposition of a forensic expert doctor from state-run JJ hospital. Dr Zeba Khan, a forensic expert from JJ Hospital, had initially examined the bones in 2012 and confirmed they were human remains. His examination was crucial to establishing the prosecution’s claim that the bones were of Sheena Bora.

According to the prosecution case, Sheena Bora was strangled by her mother, Indrani Mukerjea, her ex-husband Sanjeev Khanna, and driver Shyamwar Rai in 2012. The body was then allegedly transported to Pen village and burned. The remains recovered by Pen police in 2012 were sent to JJ Hospital for examination.

The alleged murder case remained undetected till Rai’s arrest in another case in 2015. During the police interrogation, Rai revealed about the 2012 murder.

Subsequently, the other remains were recovered and sent to AIIMS, Delhi for further examination to confirm if they belonged to the same person as the remains found in 2012 and to determine gender, age, and cause of death.

The special public prosecutor informed the court the articles (bones and remains of victim's body), which were referred and examined by Dr Zeba Khan are not traceable despite diligent search.
