Bhopal: A 56-year-old woman was killed by a tiger in Kanha National Park in Madhya Pradesh, police said on Wednesday.

The incident took place in a forest falling under the Kanha Tiger Reserve (KTR) late on Monday evening, according to Baihar police station in-charge Ramakrishna Raghuvamsi.

According to the police, a tribal woman Kalavati Dhruve along with her daughter and a neighbour went to the forest on the fateful day to collect forest produce.

A tiger suddenly attacked her and then dragged her into the forest, police said.

The tribal woman’s daughter and her neighbour however had managed to flee the spot and informed the local villagers about the incident.

Later, a team of forest officials along with police launched a search operation to rescue the tribal woman.

The rescue team spotted the body of the woman partly eaten by the tiger, police said.
