Odisha: Class 10 Student Dies After Receiving Wrong Injection
Bhubaneswar: A Class 10 student from Karanjia in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district died on Thursday after allegedly being administered a wrong injection, according to reports received on Friday.
The deceased was identified as Sukhdev Munda from Dharapada village under Pandapoda police limits in Keonjhar district.
Sources revealed that Sukhdev was suffering from a skin infection. His father took him to a local pharmacy, 'Sarbeswar Medicines,' at Saharpada Market for treatment. The pharmacist reportedly assured them that an injection would provide quick relief.
Tragically, within a minute of receiving the injection, Sukhdev's condition worsened, leading to his untimely death. Family members rushed him to Karanjia Medical Centre, but doctors declared him dead upon arrival.
Sukhdev, a student at Saharapada Sishu Vidya Mandir, was well-liked in his community. His sudden death sparked outrage, with his grieving family demanding accountability and justice. They urged authorities to take strict action against the pharmacist responsible.
Following the incident, the pharmacist reportedly fled, prompting a police investigation to track him down. Local residents joined the family in calling for swift action and a thorough inquiry into the matter.
“He was my nephew. He was suffering from a skin disease. Instead of prescribing ointment, they administered an injection, which caused his death. We demand justice and action against the person responsible,” sobbed Basanti Munda, a relative of the deceased student.
Authorities assured the public that an extensive investigation will be undertaken to determine the circumstances leading to Sukhdev's death and hold those responsible accountable.
