Hyderabad: Health assessed the performance, management, and strengthening of blood banks and directed officials to strengthen the comprehensive blood bank in Narayanguda here. He emphasised the need to fill the vacant positions in the Narayanguda's Institute of Preventive Medicine (IPM) Blood Bank.

Speaking at a review meeting on Thursday, eve of the World Blood Donation Day, Rajanarasimha also directed officials to upgrade components in 14 well-performing blood banks under government administration to ensure enhanced efficiency. He sought detailed reports on the performance and management of the 63 government-run blood banks.

He instructed officials to utilise the occasion of World Blood Donor Day to highlight the importance of blood donation.

The meeting was attended by health secretary Dr Christina Chongthu, family welfare commissioner R.V. Karnan, project director of AIDS Control Society, Haimavathi, Director of Medical Education, Dr Vani, commissioner of Telangana Vaidya Vidhan Parishad Dr Ajay Kumar and director of IPM Dr C. Sivaleela.

Over 170 medical students donated blood at a donation camp at Kakatiya Medical College. Navadeep Ashwini, a medical student who donated blood for the ninth time, drew special praise.
