AIADMK, PMK Slam Tamil Nadu Government Over New Hooch Tragedy
Opposition leaders demand action and CM Stalin's resignation after another death from illicit arrack near Villupuram
Chennai: The Opposition AIADMK and the PMK slammed the State government on Thursday for failing to curb bootlegging by alleging that even before the dark clouds of the Kallakurichi hooch tragedy that claimed 65 lives have cleared another death has happened near Thiruvennainallur in Villupuram district where an elderly person had died after consuming illicit arrack and two other were hospitalized.
AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami demanded the resignation of Chief Minister M K Stalin as hooch tragedies were continuing to happen due to the inability of the government to take action on illicit liquor.
PMK president Anbumani Ramadoss said that the victim Jayaraman had consumed arrack sold illegally at D Kumaramangalam near Thiruvennainallur on June 28 and died. Two others have also been hospitalized, he claimed
Accusing the State government of trying to cover up the incident, he said the police were reeling out lies on the tragedy that had struck just 10 days after the Kallakurichi incident. He reiterated his demand for a CBI enquiry.
