Maharashtra BJP to focus on countering narrative set by Opposition for Assembly polls
Following setbacks in the Lok Sabha elections, Maharashtra BJP announces plans to form committees to counter opposition narratives, finalise candidates early, and address issues concerning Marathas and OBCs ahead of the Vidhan Sabha elections
Mumbai: After drubbing in the Lok Sabha election, Maharashtra BJP has decided to constitute various committees to address the issues ahead of the Vidhan Sabha election. There will be a committee to counter the opposition's narratives. The party has also decided to finalise candidates early so that it does not face problems like Lok Sabha.
The party on Saturday held its core committee meeting at state headquarter in South Mumbai. The meeting, which went on for around four hours, was attended by BJP's Maharashtra election in-charge and Union minister Bhupendra Yadav, Maharashtra election co-in-charge and Union minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and Maharashtra deputy chief minister Devendra Fadnavis among other senior leaders.
A senior BJP leader, who attended the meeting, said that they discussed the road map for the assembly election so that they can remain in power. “The party has decided to constitute multiple committees from selecting candidates to countering the false narratives of the MVA. In addition to this, the party also decided to form a separate committee to look into the issues of Marathas and OBCs,” he said.
The senior BJP leader said that they are also planning to take the announcements made in the budget including the ‘Mukhyamantri Majhi Ladki Bahin Scheme’, which is a cash allowance scheme for women, to the people. “We will strengthen our social media team to counter the fake narratives of the opposition parties. A separate committee will be formed to monitor the statements of the opposition parties and rebut them,” he said.
According to the senior BJP leader, taking a lesson from the debacle of the Lok Sabha election, the party will finalise its candidate for the Assembly election sooner so that the candidate can get enough time for the election campaign. Several Mahayuti candidates for Lok Sabha elections were announced late, which did not give enough time to candidates for campaign.
Speaking with reporters after the BJP state core committee meeting, Mumbai BJP president Ashish Shelar said that they have decided the road map for the assembly election. “The party's strategy has been decided for the upcoming assembly elections. We will contest the elections in alliance with their partners (Shiv Sena and NCP). In the coming days, Devendra Fadnavis and Chandrashekhar Bawankule will hold a meeting with the leaders of other alliance partners. With the blessings of the people, Mahayuti will get a majority in the assembly elections,” he said.
