Visakhapatnam: The Southwest Monsoons remained active in Andhra Pradesh with rains lashing Srikakulam and Rayalaseema areas during the last 24 hours.

Mandasa (Srikakulam district) received the highest rainfall of 10.8 cm, followed by Polavaram (Eluru) 5 cm, Narsapur (West Godavari) 4.8 cm, Garividi (Vizianagaram) 4.6 cm, Bapatla 4.4 cm, Merakamudidam (Vizianagaram) 3.5 cm and Tirupati 41.4 cm.

The IMD Amaravati said the cyclonic circulation over east-central Bay of Bengal now lay over west-central Bay of Bengal off south Andhra Pradesh coast between 5.8 km and 7.6 km above mean sea level.

Under its influence, heavy rains are likely at isolated places over north and south coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam and Rayalaseema. Thunderstorms, accompanied by lightening, are also likely at isolated places over the same areas. Strong winds with speed reaching 30-40 Kmph are likely to hit the above areas.

The report said thunderstorms would continue till July 10 over coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema.

Meanwhile, temperature dropped in Rayalaseema on Saturday as the sky was completely overcast. Though there was no rain, the temperature came down.

The temperature dropped by 7 degrees in Nellore which registered a maximum temperature of 30.4 degrees, the lowest in the state. Similarly, Kavali witnessed a drop of 5.3 degrees which registered maximum temperature of 31.0 degrees Celsius.
