Revanth praises three women for Telangana formation
Hyderabad: Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Sunday heaped praises on three women leaders who played a key role in the formation of Telangana state in 2014 — Sonia Gandhi, Meira Kumar and Sushma Swaraj.
Addressing the decennial celebrations of Telangana state formation at Parade Ground in Secunderabad, Revanth Reddy said Sonia Gandhi as UPA chairperson, Meira Kumar as Lok Sabha Speaker and the late Sushma Swaraj as Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha were instrumental in the formation of Telangana state.
The Chief Minister expressed gratitude to these three women leaders on behalf of four crore people of Telangana.
A video message of Sonia Gandhi conveying wishes to the people of Telangana on the occasion of decennial celebrations was played at the event.
Revanth Reddy recalled the crucial role played by Sonia Gandhi, Meira Kumar and Sushma Swaraj in the passage of the Bill in the Lok Sabha for the formation of Telangana state in 2014.
"We invited Sonia Gandhi, who fulfilled the Telangana people’s aspirations, as a guest to the state formation day celebrations. Someone asked in what capacity she was invited. Does it require permission to invite the mother to the child's home," Revanth Reddy asked.
As long as the history of Telangana exists, Sonia Gandhi will be recognised and respected as the "mother" by the Telangana society, the Chief Minister asserted.
