Khammam: Agriculture minister Tummala Nageshwara Rao on Thursday assured that the state government was committed to do justice to the farmers, whose lands were acquired for Sitarama Lift Irrigation Project and its canal. He inspected the project works at Enkuru in the district and instructed the officials and contractors to speed up the works.
Speaking on the occasion, he said that it was the responsibility of the state government to ensure that no farmer, whose lands were acquired for the project, face any loss. The government would finalise the compensation amount for the displaced farmers based on the report, which is expected from the district officials soon. The minister will meet the officials after June 4 for the detailed report. He assured that works would be complete before the monsoon season.
Tummala recalled how farmers of the Khammam district were denied irrigation facility through Nagarjuna Sagar left canal in the last crop season. “Availability of the water in Nagarjuna Sagar Project was crucial for the farmers in the district. I will ensure to provide irrigation facility to the 10-lakh acres in the district,” he added.
