Woman dead as car overturns after driver sights leopard

Nizamabad: A woman died when a car overturned on the road between Yellammakunta and Amrabad in Gandhari mandal of Kamareddy district on Tuesday night when its driver applied brakes suddenly on spotting a leopard on the road.

The deceased has been identified as Maloth Lalitha, 30, of Yacharam in Gandhari mandal.

According to sources, Lalitha and her husband Maloth Prabhakar had attended a function in Mopal village on Tuesday. They were returning in their car from Mopal to their home in Yacharam.

When their car reached the forest area between Yellammakunta and Amrabad, Prabhakar noticed a leopard on the road and suddenly applied brakes. As the car had been speeding, the vehicle hit a road-side boulder and overturned. As a result, Maloth Lalitha died on the spot and Prabhakar sustained head injuries.

Passersby noticed the accident and shifted the injured to the Government General Hospital in Nizamabad. Police shifted the body for postmortem.
