Achieving goals: Be patient, peaceful and persevere
To ensure that you achieve your goal, one can follow the three Ps of goal achievement.
The New Year always brings in celebrations and resolutions. Everyone has their own priorities, and as per their priorities, they have their own resolutions. Resolutions are mostly related to health, wealth, name, fame and in rare cases, spirituality.
While having a goal is a good thing, it ends up having negative side-effects on us. Some common mistakes we do is that we expect that the goals be achieved as per our timeline, we assume our goals will be achieved irrespective of how much effort we put, we expect all others around us to support us in that goal achievement and to make things worse, we are not even prepared for failure. If the goal is not met, we do not take the failure well; we blame others around us, we blame the situation and end up blaming the almighty as well: as though the almighty has some vested interest in our failure.
To ensure that you achieve your goal, one can follow the three Ps of goal achievement. These techniques will not only help you achieve your goal but also enjoy the efforts being put towards the same.
First and foremost, one needs to have “patience” to achieve a goal. The timeline that we set for our goal to manifest may or may not be in line with the cosmic timeline. We have to trust in the cosmic timeline because it is in our best interest to do so. Because the cosmic timeline is applicable to the entire universe and not just to us, so when the time is right for our goal to manifest — it will manifest. We often make the mistake of expecting our goal to be achieved in a certain time period, and if it doesn’t happen then — we get frustrated, impatient and end up giving up on that goal. Instead, we have to patient in our efforts without brooding too much on the time period.
“Perseverance”: One needs to persevere while putting in efforts towards goal achievement. There will be hurdles, there will be bad phases where you will feel like giving up. But it is during those phases that you will have to gather yourself up and continue to put in efforts. Most people give up while treading on the path, those who don’t go on to achieve whatever they want. So, we need to be resilient and continue with complete determination till we achieve our goal.
The third and most important P is “peace”: It is highly imperative that we remain peaceful and keep our peace of mind while putting in efforts towards achieving our goal. Because, if we are easily agitated and frustrated, then we tend to get negative and when we are negative, we begin to doubt our own efforts and our capability to achieve what we want. And when we begin to doubt our own self, our efforts also dwindle, we lose focus, we tend to get distracted and end up not achieving our goal. What we never understand is giving up without knowing how close we are to achieving our goal. Hence, one must remain peaceful and positive to ensure goal achievement.
When Thomas Edison was trying to invent the light bulb, he was asked: “How does it make you feel knowing that you failed 700 times?” Thomas Edison’s answer was such that it has been quoted innumerable times. He replied: “I have not failed 700 times. I have succeeded in proving that those 700 ways will not work. When I eliminated the ways that will not work, I will find the way that will work.”
It shows he was patient, peaceful and he persevered till he achieved his goal. This should be our approach too towards achieving our goals.
May you all achieve whatever it is that you wish to achieve.
