GHMC Polls: TRS keen to reach all sections

TRS decided to field people of Seemandhra origin in certain divisions.

Hyderabad: Political necessities and Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao's determination to win the GHMC polls have resulted in a shift of the party's stance.

The TRS has now decided to field people of Seemandhra origin in certain divisions in order to reach each and every section in the metropolitan city.

On their part, both the Congress and the TD are banking heavily on the support of their votes. These two parties say that people of Seemandhra origin constitute around 25 lakh population in the city and have started campaigning, projecting the TRS as anti-settlersâ€.

We never said that we wouldn't seek the support of settlers here. We have decided to take everyone along, hence we will field candidates from these sections too,†said TRS MLC Palla Rajeswara Reddy.

Assembly constituencies like Kukutpally, Serilingampally and parts of Jubilee Hills, Malkajagiri and LB Nagar have a sizeable number of people of Seemandhra origin.

It is estimated there 35 to 40 divisions of the 150 GHMC divisions are dominated by these sections.

There is a tremendous response for the TRS in these divisions. We have already received around 140 applications seeking party tickets. We may field 10 to 12 candidates from these sections,†said TRS MLC T. Bhanu Prasad, in-charge of Miyapur division in Serilingampally Assembly constituency.

TRS leaders claim that fortunately, all these divisions have been declared as General' so that the party can pick leaders from powerful castes and give a tough fight to Congress and TD-BJP combine candidates.
