GHMC polls: Fourteen nominations filed on day one
Many candidates plan filing of nominations after Sankranthi.
Hyderabad: Day-one of the nominations witnessed a trickle, with 14 nominations filed for seats in the 150-member GHMC that goes to polls in a sweeping one-stage voting on February 2. Tuesday is considered by Hindus as an inauspicious day.
A candidate of the BSP filed nomination for Ward 117, one from BJP for Ward 50 and one of the Congress for Ward 113. From the TRS party, four candidates filed their forms.
The rest of entrants Tuesday were independents. Nominations were filed for wards like Nagole Saroornagar, Jagadgiri Gutta, Subhas Nagar, Malkajigiri, Moti Nagar, Begum Bazaar, Patancheru, Barkatpura and Nallakonta.
While nominations would end on 17 January, the campaigning will continue till deadline 24 hours before the polling. Voting will be on February 2 and the results would be out after counting on February 5.
Many candidates plan filing of nominations after Sankranthi also as 14 and 15 January are holidays. The rush for nominations is likely to be heavy after the holiday period.
Even the security arrangements at the GHMC head office were not tight on day-one as there was no rush of candidates.
