Narendra Modi to kick off BJP election campaign in Assam

Elaborate security arrangements have been made for the visit of the Prime Minister.

Guwahati: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is arriving here for a day long oin Tuesday will kick off the BJP’s poll campaign in the state by addressing two public meetings, one at Kokrajhar and second in Guwahati.

The public meeting of Kokrajhar is more significant as it has been hosted by Bodoland Peoples Party, which intends to announce its tie up with BJP in presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the public meeting.

The BPF chief Hagrama Mohiliary will be sharing the dais with the Prime Minister who is also expected to announce a special package for development of Bodoland Territorial Council.

The BPF has 12 MLAs in the 126-member Assam Assembly and was earlier supporting the Tarun Gogoi government.

After addressing the rally, Modi will attend a BJP youth wing function in Guwahati. “The Prime Minister will, in all likelihood, announce a package of Rs. 2,000 crore for the Bodo Territorial Council, and also give some directions on how funds should be devolved to the 16 tribal development councils in the State,” said a senior BJP leader.

The Prime Minister is also expected to announce a series of meetings called “Assam Nirman” among groups of intellectuals, numbering around 5000 in six cities on the development of the state. At each meeting, a Union Minister will be present, the first one to be addressed by Finance Minister Arun Jaitley.

Apart from his public meetings, the Prime Minister will also visiting IIT Guwahati to lay the foundation stone of Indian Institutes of Information Technology by remote control device in Guwahati.

Meanwhile elaborate security arrangements have been made for the visit of the Prime Minister. Assam chief secretary on Sunday reviewed the security arrangement with senior police and paramilitary force officials.

nforming that all necessary steps have been taken, security sources said that additional troops have been sent to Kokrajhar to assist the administration as huge turn out of over one lakh people is expected to attend the public rally of Prime Minister at Kokrajhar.
