YouTube channel Wrapped Perception recently uploaded a video filmed in slow motion, which shows what happens inside a rocket engine when it blasts off.

The video has reportedly been filmed at 1,500 and 4,000 frames per second with a high-speed camera.

In the video, one can see a half-cut rocket engine being placed in a transparent case for the purpose of filming. Post which, the engine is seen pushing gas out of its back, propelling the rocket forward.

There are two main types of rocket engines – one, which uses liquid fuel and others that make use of solid fuels. In the case of the former, rockets turn fuel into hot gas.

Mikka, the creator of the video, used a transparent casing for the rocket engine so that he could film it in slow motion. Making use of gorilla tape, he was able to hold up the rocket engine in the casing.

“I used to have model rockets engines and I always wondered how the engine propelled the rocket to the sky and what was going on inside,” Mikka says in the video.

“It smells like sulphur,” Mikka added when the experiment was being carried out.
