Andhra Pradesh: Rainfall to be Below Normal in July

Visakhapatnam: Monthly rainfall in the country as a whole this July is most likely to be above normal (106 per cent of Long Period Average ). The LPA of rainfall over the country as a whole during July, based on data from 1971-2020, is about 280.4 mm.

Stating this, IMD Amaravati said on Monday that during July, ‘normal to above normal’ rainfall is most likely over most parts of the country except parts of the northeast and some parts of northwest, east and southeast peninsular regions, where below normal rainfall is likely.

It forecast thunderstorms in north and south coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam and Rayalaseema till July 5.

The weather report said that, “During July, monthly minimum temperatures are most likely to be above-normal over in many states except some parts of northwest and adjoining areas of central India and some pockets of south-eastern peninsular India where normal to below normal minimum temperatures are likely.”

“The maximum temperature is likely to be normal to below normal over many parts of the northwest India and south peninsular India except the west coast. Above-normal maximum temperatures are likely over many parts of central India, east and northeast India and along the west coast.”

“Above-normal rainfall can significantly benefit agriculture and water resources but also poses potential risks such as flooding, landslides, surface transport disruptions, public health challenges, and ecosystem damage.”

“To manage these risks effectively, it is essential to reinforce infrastructure, utilise IMD's early warnings, enhance surveillance and conservation efforts, and establish robust response systems in vulnerable sectors,” it suggested.
