Tirupati: The Project Approval Board of PM-USHA has sanctioned ₹ 20 crore to Vikrama Simhapuri University (VSU), Nellore, to enhance its infrastructure, academic, and research facilities. The funding is part of the Ministry of Education's initiative under the Department of Higher Education, aimed at strengthening higher education institutions across the country.

The sanctioned amount will be used for new constructions, renovations and upgrades of existing facilities, procurement of research equipment, and activities such as research and development, academic bank of credits, online and open distance learning courses, internships, industrial collaborations, and vocational programs.

Nellore police conduct special drive, over 600 cases booked

Tirupati: The Nellore police conducted a special drive late on Saturday night, targeting illegal activities and traffic violations across the district. Under the supervision of SP G. Krishna Kant, the operation included surprise checks at lodges and vehicle inspections at key locations.

During the drive, which lasted from 9:30 PM to 11:00 PM, police teams inspected rooms in various lodges and questioned individuals staying overnight. The lodge managements were instructed to report suspicious activities immediately and install functional CCTV cameras to enhance surveillance. Simultaneously, vehicle checks were carried out at junctions, highways, and exit points to identify and prevent illegal transportation and other unlawful activities.

As part of the drive, the police booked 80 cases for open drinking in public places, 96 cases for drunk driving, and 514 cases under the Motor Vehicle Act, with fines totalling ₹2,02,890. Traffic violations, including overspeeding, triple riding, underage driving, and improper vehicle documentation, were among the common offences recorded.

SP Krishna Kant emphasised the importance of helmet usage, adherence to traffic rules, and avoiding wrong-way driving on highways to ensure safety. He stated that visible policing would continue to deter criminal activities and promote public safety. The SP urged citizens to comply with the law and cooperate with enforcement efforts.

13 bikes seized in Nandyal town

Kurnool: A cordon search operation conducted by the police in the Nandyal Two Town Police Station limits on Sunday led to the seizure of 13 motorcycles without proper documentation. Two Town Circle Inspector Ismail stated that local police and QRT personnel formed teams to carry out the operation in Viswa Nagar. The search targeted houses of individuals with criminal records, suspects, and rowdy sheeters, resulting in the recovery of the unregistered motorcycles.
