Visakhapatnam: Thirteen militia members of CPI (Maoist) party voluntarily surrendered before the Alluri Sitaramaraju district Superintendent of Police (SP) Tuhin Sinha on Sunday. The surrendered militia members belong to Pedhabayalu dhalam.

Informing this media persons, Sinha said lack of proper leadership coupled with frequent encounters and various development activities taken up massively in the agency areas drove them to surrender before the police.

The surrendered militia members include K Simhadri, V Nagesh, P Pilku Naidu, K Chiranjeevi, V Rambabu, V Donu Babu, G Mohanrao, G Pantulu Padaal, M Nagaraju, Ch Ramamurthy, Ch Ganesh, Tingu and P Ramdas. They are aged between 25 and 48 years.

These members were allegedly involved in various cases booked by the police against Maoists for carrying out anti-national activities. They basically used to assist Maoists in serving food to them apart from attending meetings convened in villages. Some of the militia members attended People's Court organized by Maoists in villages.
