15 districts in coastal AP report deficit rainfall in October

Visakhapatnam: As many as 15 districts in coastal Andhra Pradesh and one in Rayalaseema reported deficit rainfall in October though overall State registered 7 percent excess rainfall.

The state recorded a total of 181.8 mm rainfall in October which is 7 per cent above than the normal of 169.2 mm.

The Rayalaseema sub-division (eight districts) reported 42 per cent excess rainfall (194.5 mm) in October than the normal of 136.6 mm. Except Kurnool district (25 per cent deficient rainfall), the remaining seven districts of the sub-division reported excess to large excess rainfall in October.

The CAP subdivision (18 districts and Yanam of Puducherry), reported 170.8 mm rainfall in October against the normal 192.1 mm rainfall, which translates into 11 per cent deficient rainfall. Ten districts of CAP reported large deficiencies in October.

Three districts_ Srikakulam, Vizianagaram and East Godavari districts reported large deficiencies of 70 to 80 per cent in October, he added.

The IMD forecast that monthly rainfall for November-2024 over the south peninsular India consisting of five meteorological sub-divisions (Tamil Nadu ,Puducherry, Karaikkal, coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, Rayalaseema, Kerala and interior Karnataka is most likely to be above normal.

The IMD’s Saturday’s report said lower-tropospheric north-easterly/easterly winds prevailing over Andhra Pradesh and Yanam. Thunderstorms accompanied with lightning likely at isolated places over coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema on November 5 and November 6.

The day temperature shot up in several places in the State on Saturday. It rose by 5.5 degrees Celsius in Narasapur which recorded 34.8 degrees Celsius. Visakhapatnam recorded 32.7 degrees and the departure was 4.6 degrees, Machilipatnam 34.2 degrees and departure was 4.5 degrees and Kavali 34.8 degrees with departure of 4.3 degrees.
