Vijayawada: As the Prakasam barrage on River Krishna received an inflow of 3.10 lakh cusecs from upstream projects, the AP water resources department released 2.96 lakh cusecs of water from the barrage downstream into the sea on Thursday at 9pm.
The water level touched 12 feet at the barrage, leading to the lifting of 10 gates at a height of eight feet and 60 gates at seven feet to release water.
Some 13,768 cusecs of water was released to canals for cultivation of crops.
The water level at Prakasam barrage was expected to rise further with huge inflows from Nagarjuna Sagar and Pulichintala projects. The flood alert continued at the Prakasam barrage while the revenue department was keeping a close watch all along the river course to avoid any untoward incidents in low-lying areas.
