Vijayawada: Around 75,000 devotees thronged the Sri Durga Malleswara Swamy Varla Devasthanam (SDMSD) temple atop Indrakeeladri to seek the blessings of the presiding deity, Goddess Kanaka Durga, who was adorned with gajulu (bangles) offered by devotees on Sunday.

The temple authorities decorated the sanctum sanctorum, the Malleswara Swamy temple, and other sub-temples atop the hill shrine with over five lakh bangles donated by devotees.
The Gajula Alankaram is observed on the occasion of Karthika Suddha Vidhiya, also known as Yama Dwitiya, a day that celebrates the bond between brothers and sisters. According to Hindu scriptures, Yamraj offered pasupu, kumkum, and a saree to his sister on this auspicious day following the Diwali celebrations when he visited her.
As part of Yama Dwitiya, the decorated bangles were offered to married women at the Kanaka Durga temple after performing various rituals.
In view of the auspicious Karthika Masam, temple priests will perform Mahanyasa Purvaka Ekadasi Abhishekam and Sahasra Linga Archana at the Malleswara Swamy temple daily from 3 pm to 7 pm. Devotees can participate in these sacred rituals by offering Rs 500.
Durga temple executive officer (EO) K.S. Rama Rao informed that, in light of Karthika Masam, the privileged darshans have been cancelled from 11.30 am to 1.30 pm to give priority to common devotees for darshan at the temple.
