Visakhapatnam: Adani Gangavaram Port has deployed special teams and mechanised equipment to assist Visakhapatnam city in clearing storm drains and other critical flow paths, aiming to mitigate the impact of heavy rains caused by a deep depression over North Andhra Pradesh.

This decision comes at a time when Visakhapatnam's GVMC municipal teams have been diverted to support relief efforts in Vijayawada, following severe flooding there since 3 August. The port-deployed teams have stepped in to help ensure that the arterial roads of Visakhapatnam remain functional, reducing the risks of water stagnation and flooding. The city has been experiencing flooding since 31 August.

Work began in Pedagantyada and Gajuwaka, which are vital in preventing water stagnation and maintaining key road operations despite the challenging weather conditions.

A spokesperson for the port said on Thursday that by deploying specialised teams and equipment, the port is assisting in storm drain clearance, ensuring that Visakhapatnam's infrastructure remains resilient against the ongoing downpour.
