Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, social activist Ajay Kumar pointed to the state government's announcement that revenue conferences will be held from December 6 to January 8, 2025. A state-wide parents-teachers’ meeting is also scheduled for January 7.
He said it will be problematic for farmers to attend these meetings, as they will be harvesting paddy around the same time. Further, farmers may skip the parents-teachers’ meetings, as most of them will prefer to attend the revenue sadassulu.
Tribal activist K. Govind referred to the parents-teachers’ meetings planned in the 3,124 schools of ASR district to discuss students’ learning abilities. He maintained that if the government genuinely wants to improve educational standards, it should not have scheduled these meetings during the harvest season.
Further, Govind underlined that many parents in the agency area are illiterate. Teachers will have to convey information patiently and clearly. “A one-day parents-teachers’ meeting is insufficient for thorough communication on this critical issue,” he underlined.
Govind felt the government should schedule these meetings in consultation with farmers in specific areas, so that discussions could yield the intended results without being stressful for farmers.
