All main agencies of Polavaram to attend November 6 workshop

Discussions will focus on how seepage can be controlled in the upper cofferdam, diaphragm wall designs, schedule for construction of the main dam, balance works for ground improvement and strategy for de-watering during construction of the project.

Vijayawada: A four-day workshop involving all major stake-holders of the Polavaram Irrigation Project will be held in Polavaram, Eluru, from Wednesday (November 6) to identify the next set of works to be taken and for the construction of related components.

Four international experts and officials from the Central Water Commission, Polavaram Project Authority, the Central Soil and materials research station, water and power consultancy services and water resources department will attend the workshop, which will end on November 9.

Discussions will focus on how seepage can be controlled in the upper cofferdam, diaphragm wall designs, schedule for construction of the main dam, balance works for ground improvement and strategy for de-watering during construction of the project.

Polavaram project chief engineer in-charge Narasimha Murthy said, “We will be having detailed discussions on designs of various components and also the methods to be adopted to take up construction of such components as per approved designs."
