VIJAYAWADA: Farmers of Amaravati, mainly women, from all 29 villages of Amaravati capital, took out a Maha Padayatra from Thulluru in Amaravati of Guntur district to the Indrakeeladri Temple in Vijayawada on Sunday, thanking Goddess Durga for fulfilment of their four-year wish of a single capital Amaravati.

The women carried portraits of Goddess Durga Devi’s portraits in their hands and kept Pongals on their heads while on the padayatra. They performed special poojas on reaching the Sri Durga Malleswara Swamy Varla Devasthanam atop Indrakeeladri.

The women and farmers also raised slogans Jai Amaravati and Jai Jai Amaravati. They said they are happy that NDA has formed the government in the state.

The protests by people of 29 villages started soon after the YSRC government announced three capitals for Andhra Pradesh. They called off their agitation soon after the NDA won the 2024 elections with a big majority. .
