Anantapur: An Armed Reserve constable suffered injuries after a misfiring incident involving a .303 rifle while cleaning at the Anantapur collectorate premises in the early hours of Friday. Subba Raju, a 1996 batch AR constable, was on guard duty at the collectorate when the misfire occurred.
Sources indicate that while Subba Raju was cleaning the .303 rifle as part of his routine duties, the rifle misfired, causing a bullet to hit the right side of his chest and exit through the other side. Colleagues and staff at the collectorate immediately transported Subba Raju to the Government General Hospital in Anantapur.
Thanks to timely medical intervention, the team of doctors at GGH provided necessary emergency care and reported that the constable is out of danger. He remains under observation as the bullet impacted his chest area.
The AR wing of Anantapur district is conducting an inquiry into the incident to determine whether the misfire was due to the cleaning process or other factors. The .303 rifle is typically regarded as one of the most powerful weapons capable of targeting long distances.
