Anantapur: A surgeon of the Anantapur Government General Hospital (GGH) allegedly removed the urethra of a woman, instead of dealing with the issue of her uterus.

According to the victim's family, Radhamma of Hamsayapalli in Kudair mandal reached GGH for treatment on September 8. After several tests, doctors determined that the woman had an issue, which would require a surgery.

It is alleged that a nurse recommended that the patient's family approach Dr. Ramana Naik of GGH, who is running a private nursing home in Ramachandra Nagar area of Anantapur. Believing the nurse, the family took Radhamma to Lavanya Hospital, where Dr. Naik conducted a surgery on September 9.

However, after being discharged after surgery, the patient faced serious pain and could not pass urine. Her family approached the doctor again, who conducted several tests at the GGH and referred her to Kurnool, saying she is facing a urology issue.

The family took her to Kurnool GGH, where they stayed for two days but returned after poor response from doctors. They admitted her to another private nursing home in Anantapur, where doctors diagnosed that during the previous surgery, the urinary pipe had been removed instead of the uterus.

Following this, the family again met Dr. Ramana Naik, who allegedly did not respond properly. The patient’s family then approached the district collector in this regard.

Following this, GGH authorities have ordered a detailed inquiry by a team of gynaecology department head Shamshad Begum, urologist Rangaswamy and general surgeon Ramaswamy Naik,

The team has been asked to submit a detailed report.

In the interim, the patient had undergone dialysis twice. Sources said the kidneys of the woman are functioning properly. Two surgeries are required to rectify the problem.
