Andhra Pradesh: Drunk Man Climbs Electric Pole and Lies on Wires
Visakhapatnam: A man from M. Singipuram, Palakonda Mandal, caused a stir by climbing an electric pole under the influence of alcohol and lying on high-voltage wires.
The man, identified as Yajjala Venkanna, a habitual drinker, had reportedly consumed large amounts of alcohol at a nearby liquor shop earlier in the day. After returning home, he had an argument with his mother over money for medicine. Frustrated, Venkanna wandered off to an electric pole in his intoxicated state, climbed it, and bizarrely lay down on the live wires.
Locals who witnessed the dangerous act immediately alerted the electricity department. The authorities swiftly cut off the power supply to avert a potential tragedy. Despite repeated pleas from onlookers and concerned residents, Venkanna refused to come down from the pole. He even performed acrobatic stunts on the wires, ignoring calls for his safety.
When questioned by police about his actions, Venkanna explained his reasoning, which reflected his inebriated state. He claimed that after his mother refused to give him money for medicine, he became enraged and climbed the pole as a form of protest.
The electricity department has since confirmed that it will review safety measures in the area to prevent similar incidents in the future.
