Andhra Pradesh: Free tuition centre started for students

Vijayawada: The 'first free tuition centre' in Andhra Pradesh started functioning in the Nidamarru village on Wednesday under the auspices of the SRM Foundation.

R Premkumar, registrar of SRM University-AP and Ms Revathi Balakrishnan, associate director – Directorate of student affairs -- jointly inaugurated the centre. Premkumar said, “The SRM Foundation is active in social service in Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh. This tuition centre is a testament to the foundation’s philosophy of promoting societal causes.”
The foundation's spokesperson, Suresh Kannan, said the institution set up the first free rural tuition centre to provide education to students in Tamil Nadu. SRMAP MPRO Venugopal Gangisetty said 22 such tuition centres have been established in Tamil Nadu state, with 570 students being taught the curriculum. “This is the first free tuition centre to be established in Andhra Pradesh.”
M. Elamaran, senior consultant of the Puthiyathalaimurai Foundation, said students of sixth to tenth standard from economically backward families will be taught their lessons free of charge.
