Andhra Pradesh HC questions CID's actions in Mumbai actress case
Vijayawada:The Andhra Pradesh High Court questioned the CID about why the second accused in the case, former intelligence chief PSR Anjaneyulu, had not been arrested, despite not seeking anticipatory bail to prevent his arrest. A single-judge bench, headed by Justice VRK Krupa Sagar, heard the case on Thursday.
Advocate General Dammalapati Srinivas, appearing for the CID, submitted to the court that it is the prerogative of the investigating officer (IO) in a case to arrest the accused. He explained that if the IO believes that arresting a particular accused would help uncover facts, the IO would proceed with the arrest.
The AG informed the court that the investigation was at a crucial stage and argued that granting anticipatory bail to the accused would hinder the inquiry. He requested the court to dismiss the accused's petitions for pre-arrest bail. After hearing arguments from both sides, the court reserved its verdict.
