Visakhapatnam: Parents belonging to PVTG Kondu tribal villages within the Cheemalapadu panchayat of Ravikamatam mandal in Anakapalle district staged a protest at Kalyan Lava on Monday demanding birth certificates for their children.

Issuance of birth certificates will enable their 35 children, residents of Neredu Bandha, Jeelugulova, Kalyan Lava, Raipadu and Ajjeyapuram villages, to enrol themselves with the Automated Permanent Academic Account Registry (APAAR), and get their unique One Nation, One Student ID.

Jemila Vasu, a representative of the PVTG Association, complained that getting a notarised birth certificate costs minimum ₹3,000 each, which they cannot afford. He said the protest is for acceptance of birth certificates issued by agency authorities, which are not notarised.

The demonstrators appealed to district collector Vijayakrishnan to resolve their problem, so that their children going to schools could register with the APAAR app.

Members of the PVTG Association, including Kilo Suribabu and Korra Mahesh, and CPM district executive member K. Govinda Rao participated in the protest. They urged the district administration to streamline the birth certificate acquisition process.
