Vijayawada: The Palnadu district police have arrested two persons in the case of rape, murder and extortion of a single woman in Oppicherla village under the Karempudi police station limits on June 26.

The two were Ramavath Babu Naik and Banavath Balu Naik, both aged 35 and residents of Karempudi. Police seized a two-wheeler and material stolen from the women.
Palnadu SP Malika Garg said Karempudi circle inspector Srinivas and his team arrested the accused near the NSP canal on the Karempudi-Vinukonda road. The deceased woman ran a grocery shop from her residence and occasionally sold illicit liquor. She lived alone after a quarrel with her husband.
Around 9.30 pm on Wednesday, Babu Naik and his relative Balu Naik went to the deceased's house to fetch a drink. Some quarrel took place between the woman and the two men. The two hit the woman on her head with a pestle, dragged her to the backroom and both raped her. They fled the place after laying their hands on her earnings and the cash in the grocery, police said.
“The police formed five special teams to arrest the accused, deployed sniffer dogs to collect evidence and verified CCTV footage and call data recordings. The bad characters in the area were questioned, leading to the arrests,” he said.
