Legal action against child marriage organizers: Nandyal Collector

Kurnool: Nandyal Collector G. Raja Kumari has warned that parents and in-laws organising child marriages will face legal action and a ₹1 lakh fine. Speaking at a programme on Thursday, she expressed concern over the failure of the district's women and child welfare mechanisms, despite involving medical staff, panchayat officials, and the sachivalayam system.

The Collector noted no field reports of child marriages in the past four months, with cases only surfacing through her intervention, exposing lapses in staff performance. Highlighting the district's low sex ratio and female foeticide, she urged awareness among parents. Maternal and child mortality remains high due to poor coordination, she said, stressing vigilant monitoring of pregnant women and infants. Project Director Leelavati and other officials attended.
