Vijayawada: The Andhra Pradesh Chambers (AP Chambers) on Thursday urged the AP government to allow continuance of modern plunger pumps and fire engine pumps in the design of fire safety systems in buildings.
AP Chambers president Potluri Bhaskar Rao submitted a memorandum regarding implementation of fire safety norms to Madireddy Pratap, director general of fire services, State Disaster Response and Fire Services Department.
Bhaskar Rao recalled the gazette notifications issued in September and October 2022 by the government simplifying the procedures as part of ease of doing business without compromising the fire safety in the enterprises which were welcomed by associations and businesses enterprises in Andhra Pradesh.
He pointed out that following the Gazette Notifications, various industries, educational institutions and hospitals have adopted the methods while constructing buildings and obtained NOCs for five years or more.
He expressed fear that there was news about annulling these notifications and restoring old norms which would mean that the already constructed buildings will have to make substantial changes to their building plans and constructions to install the old equipment prescribed prior to these notifications, thereby causing huge financial loss and hardship.
He said the installation of inappropriate technologies like water sprinklers in the present days can cause unreasonable hardship and also not in keeping with the letter and spirit of the National Building Code. The AP Chambers sought use of modern plunger pumps and fire engine pumps in the design of fire safety systems in buildings.
