Visakhapatnam: Parvathipuram Manyam district collector A. Shyam Prasad has called for community involvement to tackle anaemia in the region, stressing the importance of collective efforts. During his visit to Veeraghattam mandal on Wednesday, he took part in the "Mana Badi – Mana Thota" programme and the "Sampoorna Poshana Abhiyan," both of which focus on promoting nutrition and raising awareness about anaemia.

The collector's visit included participation in seed sowing activities alongside school children, emphasising the importance of kitchen gardens in schools. He highlighted that these gardens not only provide access to fresh vegetables and fruits but also serve as a practical means to educate children about nutrition and sustainable farming practices.
The Sampoorana Poshana Abhiyan, running from September 1 to 7, is a collaborative effort involving the district grama panchayat, medical and health department, and women and child welfare department. During the event, various stalls were set up to showcase the nutritional values of local food items and raise awareness about anaemia’s impact on health. He reiterated the district's goal of reducing anemia rates, particularly among vulnerable populations such as pregnant women and children.

The collector urged health workers to ensure timely enrolment of pregnant women in health programmes. "Community Health Workers (CHWs), Auxiliary Nurse Midwives (ANMs), and Anganwadi Workers must work together to identify cases of anemia and provide necessary nutritional support," he stated.
