AP first state to launch skill census in country: Lokesh

Vijayawada: Education minister Nara Lokesh said for the first time in the country, Andhra Pradesh will launch a skill census in the state to identify skills among youth and improve their employment opportunities.
The minister reviewed with skill development officers the procedures for taking up the skill census in the state.
Speaking on the occasion, Lokesh said designated personnel will go door to door and collect details of skills of youth. This will help the government identify what jobs could be assigned to them. This will improve their financial status, he said.
The minister asked officials to take up the skill census as a pilot project in one constituency, before taking it up across the state.
While holding a review meeting with officials of IT and electronics department, Lokesh said he will hold discussions with top 10 industrialists of the country for development of IT and electronics industries in Amaravati.

He directed officials to improve the ecosystem necessary for attracting start-ups to Andhra Pradesh. Incentives could be extended to start innovation centres, he suggested.
