AP Government Changes Names of 12 Irrigation Projects, Schemes

Anantapur: In a key development, the water resources department of AP government has issued a GO restoring the original names of irrigation projects and schemes.

With this, several irrigation schemes and projects, particularly those named after late United AP chief minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy after the YSRC Party came to power, will be renamed.

Further, the name Ananta Venkata Reddy Handri Neeva Sujala Sravanthi Irrigation Project will be restored as Handri Neeva Sujala Sravanthi (HNSS) Irrigation Project.

This is the second time that HNSS, named after Ananta Venkata Reddy, stands changed.

HNSS project had been named after former MP Ananta Venkata Reddy of Anantapur for the first time when Congress ruled the combined state. The project’s name changed soon after TD got voted to power in 2014. When TD got voted out by YSRC in 2019, HNSS was renamed after Ananta Venkata Reddy.

Like this, names of 10 irrigation projects and schemes have been changed, as per the GO issued by the TD-led NDA alliance government on Thursday, August 8.

Phase-1 Interlinking of Godavari and Penna River, which had been named YSRCP DMP (YSR Palnadu Drought Mitigation Project) has now been restored as Phase-1 Interlinking of Godavari and Penna River.

YSR Vedadri Lift Irrigation Scheme has been changed to Mukyala Lift Irrigation Scheme. YSR Veligallu Balancing Reservoir has become Veligallu Reservoir. Narredy Siva Rami Reddy Reservoir has been renamed Sarvaraya Sagar Reservoir.

Likewise, YSRC nomenclatures have been dropped from Nellore Barrage, Sangam Barrage, Thatipudi Reservoir, Mogaligundala Mini Reservoir and Raketla Amidyala Lift Irrigation Scheme.

Dr. YSR Upper Pennar Project has been renamed Paritala Ravindra Lift Irrigation Scheme.

The AP government’s GO said the changed names will be published in the state gazette.
