Vijayawada: The Andhra Pradesh state government has constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to conduct a thorough investigation into the illegal transportation and smuggling of Public Distribution System (PDS) ration rice. CID IG Vineet Brijlal has been appointed as the head of the SIT.

The team includes SP B. Umamaheshwar and four other DSPs, who have been assigned specific roles by the CID. The illegal smuggling of ration rice has reportedly evolved into an organized mafia, with thousands of tons being transported abroad, primarily through the Kakinada Port.
The government acted swiftly after its formation, registering 13 cases in Karapa, Koringa, Port, and Indrapalem police stations in Kakinada district during June and July. These cases have now been handed over to the SIT for a detailed investigation.

Chief Secretary Nirab Kumar Prasad issued orders regarding the formation of the SIT on Friday, marking a significant step towards dismantling the smuggling network.
